Research Resources for the Sharing Stories from 1977 Biography Project


This guide serves as a companion research guide to the Sharing Stories from 1977 Biography Project assigned in your Feminism and Change class.

Each section lists library resources available to you to research the women associated with the 1977 National Women’s Conference (NWC). The NWC was a historic event that brought thousands of people from all races, ethnicities, sexualities, and political ideologies together in Houston, Texas, where they debated resolutions aimed at improving the economic, political, and social status of women in the United States.

About the Assignment

In this assignment, you will join 1000+ student contributors nationally who have worked on the Sharing Stories from 1977 website behind-the-scenes since 2017, and continue to do so since its public launch in late 2021.

Oral History Collections

Listening to/reading oral histories can also shed light on your subject’s life that texts do not. Oral history collections are often housed at archives and may be digitized and available online. You can also conduct oral histories of NWC participants or their descendants if you learn that they are available and would like to talk.
